1984 Grand Wagoneer (customized to look like a 1964)
Having spent its life in NC/VA border, I purchased and brought it to Maine where the faded paint and one tiny rust hole in the drivers rear quarter was treated to the beautiful paint job that it deserved. Someone had already made it look like a 1964 Wagoneer with the wraparound tail lights, Rhino grill with round headlights, roofrack removal, woodgrain removal (can be re-added per new owners discretion), old timey bumpers, outside hood release, and locking hubs on the front wheels. Inside, the 4WD/2WD lever was made into a cable, the floor mat is rubber, the seats were replaced with oxblood from a newer model, the pioneer is a Supertuner. The A/C is cold, all the electricals work great even the back window, with it being comfortable and usable. Underneath, it was cleaned and painted with the gas tank being dropped to make sure that there was no rust there as with many of these. The transmission just came out of the shop from rebuild and the engine had been done a short time before with new components everywhere– waterpump, starter, radiator, carburetor, exhaust, front end components, brakes. Really drives well and –really– turns heads– even the old guys, like me, who are used to seeing a woodgrained waggy go by, look again to see– what’s that? an old one?
I guess that’s what challenges the car beside me to ask– What year?— Funny, its never—What kind? Last one made was (1991) –27 years ago. I have used it each summer and stored in the winter.
