Sold new as an AEV vehicle in 2006 by an authorized Jeep dealer in Missoula, MT, this Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon LJ was equipped with the “AEV 570” V8 conversion package from the then-small startup still operating out of a quonset hut a few miles down the road. The vehicle was custom-ordered, and outfitted by AEV with nearly-every option offered at the time, including heated and cooled Recaro seats that are color matched to the rare Khaki interior.
Sent to AEV in Wixom, Michigan in 2008 for a second round of upgrades, including the Recaro heated and cooled seats, factory Jeep engineer-designed AEV Nth Degree 3.5 Long arm kit, which remains to this day the most-radical suspension system fitted to a Jeep. While in Michigan, AEV also installed its now-unobtainable AEV Highline Fender Conversion, which allowed fitment of 37” Wrangler MTR tires on AEV beadlocks.
At the same time, the Jeep was outfitted with a custom Dynatrac Dana 60 rear axle (with the correct stock bolt pattern) along with the Mopar Rock Crawler front bumper of their own design; and a Genright roll cage and rear swing out bumper, both featuring AEVs proprietary coatings. To ensure autonomy on the trail, AEV also installed a 31.5 gallon GenRight fuel tank to give the vehicle additional range, line-x with sound and heat protection, ARB compressor and many more upgrades.
Delivered to the original owner at Easter Jeep Safari in March of that year and displayed in the company’s booth, the LJ was also the first customer vehicle to receive AEV’s big brake kit which used Ram 1500 components combined with custom forged knuckles was added to help stop the larger tires. Very few vehicles were outfitted with this upgrade, and it was only available for a short time.
This 2006 AEV LJ has been preserved in collector condition exactly as it was modified by American Expedition Vehicles, and has received no further modification. Currently the Jeep has 14,700 miles, with over one hundred pages of documentation contained in three separate 3-ring binders, including every detail of the vehicle’s ownership, down to the Fedex receipts for the shipping of the cashier’s checks to AEV, and all email correspondence with the company regarding the outfitting of the vehicle.
